Good morning, welcome to 1993

I woke up thinking this would be just like any other Thursday. I thought it would be even better, because the thermometer is finally reading a number that starts with a 5, and DST is only 3 days away. So I fed Sadie at 6 am, she went back to sleep, so I thought I'd spend a little time on the laptop. I thought I'd try and beat my survey earnings from yesterday's almost $20 (awesome, right?), and I needed to respond to emails that I put off when I decided I would be a bum last night. So imagine my anxiety when the laptop told me there was a "startup failure" and a "repair" needed to be done. OMG. What do I DO?!?!? I panicked and grabbed my cell phone, hoping Brandon could walk me through this repair in the midst of my nervous breakdown. WTH, my cell phone was DEAD, after being plugged into the charger all night.

Is this for real?!? I haven't been without a cell phone since I turned 16 in 1994 and was driving through the mean streets of Reading every day for ballet rehearsals/classes. You know, back when I had my badass gray flip phone that weighed a mere 2 pounds, with a cell phone plan that gave you 15 minutes a month. FIFTEEN. I know, be jealous. It was like, SO much better than my mom's bag cell phone.

So, my technology-impaired morning continued with a landline phone call to my husband, who DID NOT ANSWER. Fantastic. So I make my way into the office, dust off the computer armoire and turn on the 'ol desktop that hasn't had electricity coursing through it's cords since before Sadie was born. There isn't even a bookmark for Lime Jello on this thing. As I stare at the monitor that came with the first computer my mom bought me in 1996, I reach for the mouse that no longer exists because Ben thought it was a cool toy back in the day. OMG, do we OWN a mouse that plugs in?!? Do they even exist anymore?

My morning is ticking away, so I get the kids in the car to take Ben to school and the entire ride there I am in a panic that I haven't responded to my wholesale dealer yet, and I am for sure never going to find another good deal on brown twill again. What is wrong with me? My mom was a SAHM in the '80's when playdates were arranged with a rousing game of phone tag with other moms desperate for adult interaction. Here I am, minus Facebook updates for one morning and I think the world is going to end. Do you think I am addicted to technology?

I finally get home, put Sadie down for her nap, and find a USB mouse on Brandon's desk. Wait, does the desktop HAVE a USB port, it's like a bazillion years old. Deep breaths, deep breaths. The good news is that obviously it did, or I would not be typing this right now. However, in the time it took me to boot this thing, I completed an entire carrier. I'm not kidding. This thing is slower than Ben trying to get dressed on a school day.

I am keeping every body part that I have crossed that my laptop can be fixed tonight, because I realized this morning that my life could not exist in it's present form without it. I have 3 Ebay messages, 2 Etsy messages, and a wholesale dealer all needing my immediate attention. I thought technology was supposed to make life easier, not more stressful.

So I finally feel my blood pressure coming down after a morning of panic that my beloved laptop had seen it's final days. I've been assured that it's not that bad, and that I will be back on the internet at a normal speed in just a few short hours.

Damn, the '90s were rough.

Back to the pantry

It was a nice run. It really was. Sadie is 14 months old tomorrow, and it's been nice. But, I can no longer indulge in my peanut butter cup eggs at my computer while Sadie is playing. She has realized what food is, that I AM in fact eating it in front of her, and the second she hears a plastic wrapper she is on to me so fast with her frantically signing "eat". So, it's back to the pantry for me. I must again resort to hiding in the pantry while I eat my delectable treats, so I am not forced to share with others.

Damn it...........

It's almost here!

Daylight Savings Time is only TWO WEEKS AWAY!!!! There are no words to express how happy this makes me! I am SO.OVER.WINTER. Over it. The time from New Year's until spring is the worst time of the year. Just the fact that I woke up today and January and February were over made my day start off that much better. This year seemed like it was exceptionally difficult, because our Christmas was absolutely amazing. We had so much fun with all our advent calendar activities and the decorating, and Ben being so excited, that when it was over it hit us hard. I think it hit me harder than anyone else around here too. I'm glad that we "got through" the first two months of the year and we can finally look forward to Spring. I noticed last night as I put Sadie to sleep, that it was actually still light out. This made me giddy beyond belief. Yes, it was only 6 pm, because the kids were exhausted from a day in Baltimore and the aquarium. But, it means that warmer weather isn't far behind. I'm sick of the snow, and the cold, and just being cooped up inside. Once we get through to March, I feel so much better. It's almost spring, and then all the fun that comes with summer, and then once school starts in the fall, it rolls right into Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. This time of the year is just so BLAH.

Although this year MAY just have been worse in general, apparently there is a very real reason why I have felt so tired and absolutely crappy for the past few months. I have/had mono. Um, say whaaaaaaat?!?! Yup, I have mono. I AM NOT GOING CRAZY!!!!! Because honestly, I was starting to wonder. The past few weeks I have struggled to make it through the afternoon without a nap. It was like I was back in the first trimester, but even worse. I would try to fight it, but simply crash at night and then get behind on my sewing. I just kept pushing through because I was getting extremely frustrated with physically not being able to get anything done. I just COULDN'T do it. On friday, I cleaned the hardwood floors and literally passed out while Ben was watching a movie during Sadie's nap. I couldn't get up if I wanted to. So that's when I called the doctor for some blood test results and they told me I had mono. Well no FREAKIN' wonder!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so thankful for my recent medical epiphany. Not only does it shut up my recently less than understanding husband, who has quite honestly been acting like a complete jack ass about life lately. BUT, it gives me a reason to be OK with actually taking a nap to feel better. It sounds stupid, but I tried so hard to fight it because I really thought it was because Sadie only recently began STTN, and I was convinced it was due to a year of deprived sleep. Because, well, that WOULD make you tired. But the past 2 weeks have been BAD. Really, REALLY bad. I was literally to the point of tears out of frustration. Even after I was getting sleep because Sadie was, I wasn't feeling better. In a lot of ways I was feeling worse, because after finally getting the chance to fall into a deep sleep, when I had to wake up, it would take a huge effort just TO wake up. Yesterday, after walking around the aquarium all day, I slept from 6:30 pm-9 pm. I didn't force myself to stay awake, just to not feel crazy. It felt really good. I'm still beyond tired today, but I can try to fit in a little rest during the day, instead of going until I crash and then feeling absolutely terrible.

Hopefully, between extra rest, and the fact that all this snow will soon be GONE, spring will make everyone around here just a little bit happier.
