Forever Young

let's dance in style, lets dance for a while
heaven can wait we're only watching the skies
hoping for the best but expecting the worst
are you going to drop the bomb or not?
let us die young or let us live forever
we don't have the power but we never say never
sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
the music's for the sad men
can you imagine when this race is won
turn our golden faces into the sun
praising our leaders we're getting in tune
the music's played by the madman

forever young, i want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever, forever forever
forever young, i want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever
forever young

some are like water, some are like the heat
some are a melody and some are the beat
sooner or later they all will be gone
why don't they stay young
it's so hard to get old without a cause
i don't want to perish like a fading horse
youth is like diamonds in the sun
and diamonds are forever
so many adventures couldn't happen today
so many songs we forgot to play
so many dreams are swinging out of the blue
we let them come true

forever young, i want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever, forever forever
forever young, i want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever forever forever
forever young, i want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever, forever forever
forever young, i want to be forever

Ruts and Grooves

I love to get in my groove. I love when we develop a schedule that makes everyone in a happy, content, and well-rested mood. I love when I have a relatively consistent sewing schedule, where I can get caught up, and dare I say it, AHEAD.

Yeah, it's nice.

When it happens.

When it does, IT.IS.GLORIOUS!

Right now though, not so much.

After awhile, that groove becomes a rut, and then everyone starts to get grumpy and irritable, because it just doesn't seem to work anymore. So here we are.

I hate change, I really do. I don't do well with it, and it makes me flustered and disorganized. I don't like CHANGE, but I like little tweaks now and then. A little bit of tweaking here and there keeps everyone fresh and focused.

Right now, I'm in that "end of the season rut" where I'm anxious to move on and get new things going again, so I can feel like I can get back to my regularly scheduled programming. I'm at that point where I'm sick of the heat, sick of slathering sunscreen on 2 sticky and squirmy kids every time we leave the house, sick of stinky towels and swimsuits from the pool, and sick of just doing whatever we want, because it's become a whole lot of of nothin'.

I'm really looking forward to Fall right about now. Ben starts school two weeks from tomorrow, and I am REALLY excited. HE needs it desperately, I need it desperately, and my poor youngest child just wants to play with her dolls without her big brother crashing into her with the Millenium Falcon every 2.5 seconds. We need a schedule again. I'm not talking about a "we'll wake up and do something tomorrow after Sadie's nap" schedule. I mean an honest to goodness, "we need to do X, Y, and Z in this order, everyday" kind of schedule. Yeah, yeah, I know in about 2 months I'll be ready to ditch all of it for a lazy day of fighting pirates in the backyard, but for now, I could really use a very specifically scheduled coffee break in the course of my day.

I really regret not scheduling our vacation smack dab in the middle of summer like we did last year. It was nice to get a breather 1/2 through. A vacation is a vacation regardless, but next year we definitely need to schedule it somewhere in the middle again.

So, I will do my best to enjoy our last 2 weeks of summer, and not wish them to go by too quickly. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't counting down to the 3 hours every day that I will only be responsible for entertaining one child as opposed to two.

When I can't sleep

These are some of the things my brain decides to fixate on when I'm wired and can't fall asleep:

1. How much water is packed away in the gel of disposable diapers in landfills? Won't we need it someday?

2. When I look out the window, sometimes I can see people doing things REALLY far away. It makes me wonder who's watching me when it looks like no one's around.

3. Somewhere, out in the world, the people my children will marry could be starting school or being born right now. Are their parents thinking the same thing?

4. What's the deal with all these aluminum drinking bottles lately? I get that people don't want to expose themselves to BPA in plastics, but what about the aluminum? Remember when everyone made a big deal about the aluminum in deodorant because it can accumulate in the brain and lead to some of the damage associated with Alzheimer's disease? Why is our health always a "fad"?

Sanity is optional

Since Monday morning, I have done the following:

- Gone to the dentist and listened to yet another hour of jabbering from my humorless hygienist.
- Taken Sadie to the doctor for a well visit with 2 shots (vaccine, not liquor........although they should come as a package deal).
- Had three, scratch that, FOUR fillings done during a second trip to the dentist. This time, I was privy to a conversation about my dentist's wife's dealings in fine handbags with her Japanese counterpart.
- Taken my dog to the vet for shots of her own, where she predictably pooped and peed on the vet. Twice.
- Had my arm from my elbow to my hand doused in the vomit of my 5-year-old son.
- Endured weather the temperature of the surface of the sun.
- Had my expensive designer sunglasses stepped on by previously mentioned dog, because apparently a 5 lb terrier is terrifying and out to shred mine to bits. Wussy dog.
- Had the four-way flasher button mysteriously FALL into my dashboard, never to be seen again. At least I was able to turn them OFF before it fell, because that continuous clicking WOULD have put me in the loony bin.

And to think, it's only Wednesday.
