There are end ones too, but they don't work on our sleigh crib.

When wheels start turning
I need a new creative idea like I need a hole in the head. I have about a billion "ideas" in my head that would take from now until eternity to finish, but alas, the wheels in my head continue to turn.
In order to re-do our study to install the built-in desk with a marble desktop that is currently taking up 1/2 the garage, we were going to get rid of this monstrosity:
So well organized, isn't it? I especially love that computer monitor from my first Compaq in 1996. Vintage IS in you know.
I would like to see it turned into something like this:
armoire turned sewing cabinet
Or:
a crafter's heaven
Dream big or GO HOME PEOPLE.

"My Wish"- Rascal Flatts
"My Wish"
I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,
But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.
But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,

Lost and Found
It's amazing what you find when you decide to organize your life. After months of it being on my "Most Wanted" list, I finally found my cutting table. How you "lose" a 5' x 4 1/2' cutting table is really something only I could do, but then again, I also "lost" that 40 yd bolt of quilt batting. I baffle even myself.
After moving some bookshelves from the play area into my craft room, I was able to keep my most popular fabrics readily available to use. Since we got an awesome built-in desk for the study upstairs from one of Brandon's old displays, I have to move 2 bookcases from in there, down to the play area in the basement. Don't you love how you have to make 10 messes to clean ONE?

But now I have a nice and organized shipping center, so it's all good.

I've even managed to keep this section organized for a whole SIX MONTHS. I know, I'm awesome. And yep, that's a step stool. Not to be confused with the little plastic Ikea one in a previous picture. You remember I'm 4'11", right? They come a dime a dozen around here, every closet has one. :)

Do you think I need more supplies? I don't know, I think I do. And don't get too excited about that there microwave. I still haven't manage to locate an outlet on that wall to plug it in.

The newly organized corner of the play area. Don't be too jealous, my kids haven't been down here to play yet. Do you see what "two sets of grandparents who save 25 year old Little People sets" and two children later gets you? That's right, an ENTIRE shelf and 2 large bins devoted to Little People.

What's on for today?
So, my friend Miranda posted on her blog about this really cool message board she made in her quest to be more organized in 2011. And while I don't have any extra picture frames laying around, I DID have this set of 4 squares of cork that I bought at Ollie's for $5 a few years back sitting in my craft studio collecting fabric lint.
So I decided to take a break from sewing today to try out a new project. I must say, it looks pretty darn AWESOME.
4 squares of cork
Amy Butler fabric to cover the 4 squares
Ironing out the wrinkles
Fabric cut about 1" larger than cork on all sides
I coordinated some ribbon for each piece
Using a hot glue gun, I pulled edges tightly and glued the fabric around the edges of the cork.

Completed tile
Glue coordinating ribbon across corner.

Line up the ribbon on each tile and glue them together along the edges.

There was a funky hole in the center where all the tiles met, so I glued 2 buttons stacked together to cover it up.

Front of message board.
Next, I cut a piece of cardboard for the back, since the cork was still a little flimsy. I cut the cardboard about an inch smaller than the board on each side.
I used a nice piece of cardboard from the box from Sadie's play kitchen she got for her birthday. :-) It was the perfect size, and nice and sturdy.

Then I glued the cardboard to the back of the corkboard.
Annnnnd........
Voila!! The message/cork board's new home on my pantry dorr.

It works out great, because we each have our own square to keep papers, sports schedules, doctor's appt, etc organized. The only thing I didn't think about was how I can fit the school calendar on the door with it. Ooops! LOL!!
